Cenajo Reservoir

The Cenajo dam is situated on the Segura river in the provinces of Albacete and Murcia, in a ravine known as La Herradura. The right bank of the natural downstream boundary lies within the municipal district of Moratalla (Murcia), while the left bank belongs to Hellín (Albacete). The reservoir behind the dam also occupies parts of the municipal districts of Socovos and Férez, both in the province of Albacete.

The intersection of the dam axis with the course of the river is at the following coordinates:

Geographical coordinates (based on the Greenwich meridian):

The installations of the dam and the reservoir are to be found on “Isso” map number 868, of the National Geographical Map, scale 1:50.000, published by the Instituto Geográfico Nacional.

Access to the dam and reservoir

Access to the dam by the left bank is from the CM-412 Almansa to Ciudad Real road, on the stretch between Hellín and Elche de la Sierra. 14 km out of Hellín there is a road leading to the installations and runs along the crest of the dam. Access by the right bank is from the MU-510 Calasparra to Moratalla road taking a road to the right 6 km after Calasparra (signposted “El Chopillo”). After 13 km the road meets the dam access road, some 4 kilometres from the dam itself. Another way of access is from the C-3314 Caravaca to Jumilla road, between Calasparra and Venta del Olivo. 2 km out of Calasparra there is a road to the left signposted “Las Minas”, which leads to the right bank dam access.

The location of the reservoir can be seen in the following map:
