The Calasparra Sinclinal battery of wells is made up of 19 drought wells belonging to the Segura Hydrographic Confederation, executed in the 1990s and located in the Sinclinal de Calasparra aquifer, in the Region of Murcia.
These surveys are intended to increase the availability of water resources in periods of prolonged drought, and fulfill a strategic function due to the importance of the resources collected in relation to the drought situation in the Segura basin.

On the other hand, they perform a transcendent environmental function since the Segura river is used as a transport network for the extracted water, which contributes to the maintenance of the ecological flows established in the Special Plan for Situations of Alert and Eventual Drought of the Segura Basin, as well as the maintenance of flora and fauna in the riverbed and riverbank.
The exploitation of the Calasparra Sinclinal wells is protected by the Resolution of June 8, 2017, “of the Secretary of State for the Environment, which formulates an environmental impact statement for the project Temporary exploitation of the drought wells of the Segura Hydrographic Confederation in the Sinclinal de Calasparra aquifer (Murcia) ”. Specifically, it contemplates the commissioning of 9 of the surveys for a total period of four years (2017-2020), the main characteristics of these surveys being reflected below:
