The Segura Hydrographic Confederation has its own network of drought wells that has been developed since the 1990s. The objective of this infrastructure is to change the individualized management model of each catchment for a centralized management in the CHS. In this way, these pumpings are coordinated with the rest of the water resources of the basin, in order to guarantee, in times of drought, the ecological flow of the river along its route and complement the existing demands.
