Introduction

In the Segura Hydrographic Demarcation, the Surface Water Monitoring Programs, as established by Royal Decree 817/2015, are the following:

  • Surveillance control program: its purpose is to obtain a general and complete vision of the state of the water masses. It is integrated by:
    • Subprogram for monitoring the general state of the waters.
    • Reference applet.
    • Sea and transboundary emission control subprogram, for which there are no stations in this demarcation.
  • Operational control program: its purpose is to determine the status of the water masses at risk of not meeting the environmental objectives and to evaluate the changes produced as a result of the Programs of measures.</li >
  • Investigation control program: it is implemented if the origin of non-compliance with the environmental objectives of the body of water is unknown; if the surveillance check indicates that the objectives are unlikely to be achieved and an operational check has not been put in place; and to determine the magnitude and impact of accidental contamination. This is not a periodic sampling network, but rather a temporary sampling effort.
  • Additional control in Protected Areas: in this Demarcation additional control requirements are applied in the following Protected Areas:
    • Water intended for the production of drinking water.
    • Nutrient control in sensitive areas.
    • Nutrient control in water bodies affected by nitrates.
    • Control of the water bodies located in the protection areas of habitats or species of the Natura 2000 network in which the maintenance or improvement of their status constitutes an important factor for the protection of habitats or species.
    • River nature reserves.
